Happy New Year!
Today is the Octave of Christmas! Today is also another day that this year we celebrate 2 feasts!
1st, even though here in the USA it’s not a holy day of obligation because it’s on a Monday (not 100% how that all works) it is the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God. Today is a day to remember the important role Mary played in the salvation of the world, bearing the Christ to bring Him into the World of Man. It is through Mary the first follower of Jesus we find a beautiful path to follow to Jesus. And it is through her we draw closer to Jesus, and through Jesus our path to God the Father. It is beautiful! Her Fiat is a wonderful example of saying yes to, following, and completely trusting God and His Will.
The other thing we celebrate is The Circumcision of Our Lord. In Jewish tradition (as Mary, Joseph, and Jesus were of the Jewish faith) 8 days after birth, infants were given their formal name and baby boys, circumcised at home. (Way different than what’s performed in hospitals today).
Luke 2:21 The Circumcision and Naming of Jesus.
21 When eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.”
